Mildred and Richard Loving are my heroes. Long before I knew what an interracial relationship was, I knew about Loving v. Virginia (1966) as a Supreme Court case. At the time, Virginia had a miscegenation or prohibition on “race mixing” law on the books. Mr. & Mrs. Loving did something that, at the time, was risky at best, and life-threatening at its worst. The mid to late 60’s was a tumultuous time and race was at the heart of most debates. The Lovings stood up for love and for what they believed. In the fourth week of our Celebrating Christmas in the Underground, The Lovings show us what it is to stand up for our beliefs and remind us that love truly conquers all. elle T.
